I wanted a place to think in public about Amazon and e-commerce. For a while, it worked.

Then something shifted.

I noticed that most of my best ideas were no longer coming from Amazon content. They were coming from podcasts about other fields. Conversations between founders, scientists, comedians, economists. Things that were not “about Amazon” at all, but still made me change how I run my brands and my life.

At the same time, writing The Garlic Press started to feel forced. I wasn’t enjoying the process.

So I am doing the only honest thing:
I am closing The Garlic Press.

And I am putting my energy into a new project that actually matches where my attention is.

Your customers aren't searching for a keyword. they're searching for a solution to a problem.

Someone types "yoga mat for hot yoga"? They're imagining themselves dripping sweat, and losing weight. Show them THAT. Sweaty and fit model, towel nearby, mat that clearly handles moisture.

"Yoga mat for bad knees"? That's a grandma trying to stay active without destroying her joints. Show HER. Knee support, extra cushioning.

Same mat. Completely different emotional triggers.

How to do it:

1. Create Buyer Buckets by grouping keywords based on what the person actually wants. Are they buying a wedding gift? For daily use? For a specific problem like bad knees?

2. Craft a Story for Each Bucket, a unique ad, with different headlines, images and copy.

3. Launch a Separate Campaign for Each Bucket.

4. Watch and Learn. Which stories get the most clicks? Which ones actually turn into sales? You’ll quickly see which customer stories are the most successful. Kill the losers and work with the winners.

🐹 The Guinea Pig Method: Validate New Niches via Successful New Sellers

Before you jump into a niche, look for sellers with under 250 reviews who launched in the last year and are achieving significant revenue (e.g., $10k+/month).

If you find three or more of these then that's your green light.

If all you see at the top are old, high-review listings, it’s a red flag. Run away.

How to do it:

1. Pick a niche the usual way: keyword research, trends, your product radar.

2. Pull up the main keywords in Helium 10 X-Ray, Jungle Scout, or whatever you trust.

3. Filter for successful new sellers:

   1. < 250 reviews

      1. Launch date within the last 12 months (“Creation Date” in H10).

   2. Sexy monthly revenue.

4. The 3+ Rule: Find at least 3 of those? Green light. Less than that? Yellow to red flag.

🛡️ The Amazon Image Test: How to Avoid a Suppression

One "risky" main image can cause Amazon to suppress your entire listing.

Here's how to avoid this: you create a clone of your product in Seller Central, make it "Fulfilled by Merchant", and put a ridiculously high price on it. Then, you swap in your new, potentially risky image. If Amazon suppresses it, you lose nothing. If it passes, you know you're safe to upgrade your main listing.

Duplicate the ASIN inside Seller Central, switch it to FBM, set the price sky-high and upload the new image there. Moderation reviews the clone. If it clears, the original ASIN is safe to upgrade. The step shields your conversion history and keeps ads running. Use it for thumbnails, infographics and lifestyle shots that edge near policy lines.

How to do it:

1. In Seller Central, Add a Product → Sell a product similar to this.

2. Copy everything: title, bullets, backend keywords.

3. Change SKU to {ASIN}-TEST, quantity = 1.

4. Set to Fulfilled by Merchant.

5. Price at x3 normal so no one clicks “Buy”.

6. Save and wait for Amazon to index it.

7. Swap in the new main image.

8. If it passes, upload the same image to the real ASIN and republish.

9. Close/delete the test listing.

🗺️ Stop Hiring Filipino VAs for Everything: The Real Global Talent Map

If your answer to “Where do I hire remote workers?” is always “Philippines,” you are missing out on better talent elsewhere. People from the Philippines are great for customer service and basic admin. They are generally not as good for complex analytical work.

The best data-driven PPC managers are often in Pakistan.

Eastern Europe (Ukraine, Poland, Romania) is great for detail-obsessed SEOs and world-class web devs.

Latin America (Brazil, Mexico, etc.) is a surprisingly good talent source if you are looking for affordable graphic designers who “get” US culture and work in a US timezone.

To find them, avoid the mainstream platforms and use specialized sites like Jobrack (Eastern Europe) and Workana (Latin America).

Some shoppers now treat Amazon like Blockbuster with free shipping: they buy a product, use it for one weekend, and then send it back for a full refund. Great for them, bad for you. Think Halloween costumes, party decorations, or a special tool for a one-off DIY project. Some categories hit 30% return rates.

These are products that fit two dangerous criteria:

1. they are used for a specific, short-term scenario (like a party costume)

2. they are a reluctant "need," not an enthusiastic "want" (like a pair of crutches). These products have sky-high return rates because customers are already in a bad mood about buying them and have no long-term use for them.

Steer clear of both to protect your profits.

How to do it:

1. During product research, add an "Amazon Rentals" check to your criteria.

2. Ask: "Is this product primarily used for a specific, one-time event or a very short duration? If yes, this is a major red flag. Avoid it.

Very often, new competitor launches on Amazon come with heavy ad spend within their first months to gain rank. They bid high, draw clicks, yet hold few reviews.

By placing Sponsored Products product-target ads on these fresh ASINs you meet ready shoppers at the moment of doubt. Your ad might convert better than usual because your product has lots of reviews while theirs does not.

What it is and why it matters:

Dao-Fa-Shu-Qi is a business framework that I picked up in one of my Chinese content sources. It can apply to different areas of life and business, but lets look at product forecasting as an example:

Dao asks about the goal of product demand forecasting: lets say you want to balance supply and demand while saving cash.

Fa defines rules: how often you forecast, how you smooth deals and promotions, and when you override the model.

Shu selects the method, such as moving average for flat sales, exponential smoothing for gentle trends, ARIMA model for seasonal demand forecasting.

Qi picks the tool that matches your company, from Excel to Python.

A clear split of principle, rule, technique, and tools helps bring structured approach to product demand forecasting.

A quick re-introduction for those who wonder what this is.

I’m Max Burdilov, an 8-figure Amazon operator with a decade of experience in e-commerce. Over the years my company has launched hundreds of products in different niches, both in the USA and in Europe.

The Garlic Press started three years ago as a short weekly note about promising Amazon product ideas.

And then I stopped. Research was taking too much time; it no longer fit around our business, and it ate into family time.

I did not expect this newsletter to survive, but then something unexpected happened.

I took on an internal project to streamline training within the company. I built an insight engine that ingests and transcribes 50+ hours of seller-focused content each week, podcasts, YouTube shows, niche newsletters. Most content is in English, but there are also German and Spanish sources, as well as a few Chinese ones. Most of it is about Amazon, with a bit of TikTok and general business advice that I find relevant.

After three months of testing, the whole thing looked interesting enough to share with the world and maybe to turn into a digital product that I can make money from while enjoying the process.

I decided to give it a go and bring The Garlic Press back to life with a new mission. The plan is to publish it for free and test it publicly for 1–2 months to see if the content is worth charging for.

Anyway, let’s take a look at the first five insights that I found this week.

1. 🤖 ChatGPT As Senior Product Researcher.

Rather than treating ChatGPT like a throwaway idea generator - press button, get ten ideas - you turn it into a continuously improving partner. You begin with your product settings (price floor, review cap, margin needs) and ask for a batch of suggestions.

You then grade each idea “good” or “bad”, with a quick explanation. ChatGPT absorbs the feedback and tries again, narrowing the list with every round. Within an hour the same chat thread understands your filters well enough to give you decent product opportunities, without much hand-holding.

Save the ChatGPT URL and you’ve got a permanently trained “senior product researcher”, ready whenever you need a fresh product idea.

7-Step SOP:

✅ Open a new ChatGPT thread.
✅ Paste your product criteria (price ≥ $40, reviews ≤ 400, etc.).
✅ Ask for 10 product ideas.
✅ Rate each idea good / bad and explain why.
✅ Ask again for 10 new product ideas.
✅ Repeat 3–4 cycles until the suggestions match your standards.

2. 🔄 Store Raider Infinite Ideas Loop

Most new product idea hunts start in a keyword database (H10 etc), and show exactly what every other subscriber sees.

The Store Raider tactic is the opposite of that. It begins with live Amazon storefronts instead. Choose any listing, click Sold by → Storefront, and look at a brand’s entire catalogue: satellite products, bundle experiments, accessories, and the quiet niches that that they might also be selling in.

Scrolling those pages gives instant actionable context. Real prices, review density, image angles, even the language buyers use in feedback. After two or three turns (storefront → promising ASIN → next storefront) you usually land in a niche you hadn’t considered (cutlery trays → perfume stands → under-bed organisers).

Is it obvious? Yes. Does it work? Yes.

5-Step SOP:
✅ Choose ANY niche. Begin with ANY listing, such as lunch bags.
✅ Run X-Ray → hide sponsored ads.
✅ Filter by price, reviews etc.
✅ Open seller → Sold by → See all products.
✅ Repeat in each new niche once the current list feels exhausted.

3. 🖼️ Season-Sync Gallery Upgrade

Most Amazon listings run the same image stack 365 days a year, even when the product’s context shifts with the weather.

Season-Sync tactic is about not being lazy and doing the opposite.

Keep your copy, bullets, and title exactly as they are, but swap one or two gallery shots for scenes that match the season: beach towel in July, cracked winter hands in January, cosy couch in October. Search results already push seasonal keywords; a matching visual tells the shopper “yes, this is for right now,” and pushes the conversion up.

Real-world example from the source of this tactic: a lotion brand replaced its generic lifestyle photo with a close-up of dry, chapped winter skin two weeks before January and saw +14 % CTR in the first week.

4-Step SOP
✅ Shoot four season-specific scenes (summer, autumn, winter, spring).
✅ File them in clearly labelled season folders.
✅ Upload the matching pair roughly 30 days before the season starts.
✅ Measure CTR shifts in Manage Your Experiments or Brand Analytics.

4. 🚚 Micro-Batch Ordering to Fight Duty Swings

Tariffs move faster than your containers. Large orders from China lock you into today’s duty rates, which can be painful.

I know many sellers who instead chose to wait the whole tariff situation out and paused all orders from China.

An alternative tactic is to split a 5 000-unit PO into mini-batches of 200–500 units shipped every two to four weeks. Yes, it is more expensive, but it hedges against fluctuating duty rates.

A real-world example from the source of this tactic: a beauty SKU that would have paid £18 000 in import duty on one container instead paid about £3 000 per 300-unit shipment.

✅ Negotiate a contract with the supplier for five staggered mini-POs.
✅ Ship each lot via air cargo or small ocean LCL; book through Freightos or similar.
✅ Re-quote duty, freight, and FX just before each release; resize the lot if costs drop.

5. 🎯 “PPC Blind Spot: ASIN Targeting Isn’t Page-Locked

Many advertisers still think adding an ASIN to a Product-Targeting campaign limits ads to that detail page. I was one of them.

In reality Amazon treats the ASIN as shorthand for every keyword the product indexes for. Your Sponsored Product ads can show up anywhere: at top of search, rest of search, or on other product pages.

In the same way, “brand-defence” campaigns that target your own ASIN quietly bid on dozens of non-brand terms, inflating spend and ACOS. One look at the Search-Term Report confirms it: rows of keywords, not the ASIN you entered.

Bottom line: treat PPC Product Targeting as broad keyword bidding in disguise. Use it for reach, not for surgical page placement, and keep true brand defence in exact-match keyword campaigns instead.

It has now been 4 months since I started publishing The Garlic Press Newsletter.

I do enjoy the process, but I have to find a way to monetise it and make it worthwile for me and my team.

I contacted a few of my subscribers and asked for their opinion on the best way to do that. One advice that I heard several times was: newsletter value will go down as more people are reading it. Nobody wants to pay for product leads that are known to thousands of other Amazon sellers.

So I came up with an idea of so-called “Club99”.

The idea in a nutshell: the newsletter becomes paid and costs $99 per month. At the same time, I limit the number of subscribers to 99 people. This ensures that the opportunities that I publish are exclusive to this limited group of sellers. Yes, 99 is still a lot, but not everybody acts on every lead I send, and to me this feels like a good number.

In fact, recently my company launched one of the leads that I published in this newsletter, thinking that this is not for us. We then reconsidered the opportunity, went for it, and it is already turning profit.

Coquette is one of the biggest fashion trends of the moment, with Gen-Z girls leading the way on TikTok.

Coquette is an aesthetic, a style, a way you talk, you dress, you decorate your home.

The best way to quickly understand what this style is about is to imagine Nabokov’s Lolita. A young girl, innocent, untouched, idyllic, reading a book on a hot summer day in a short cotton dress. Hyper-feminine, sexy, seducing.

Gen-Z girls want that back, with a twist. Less about fucking old perverts, more about being who they are and proudly expressing their femininity.

In e-commerce, this trend can be applicable to a number of markets.

First of all, fashion.

In fashion, coquette aesthetic is all about croissant-shaped handbags, tank tops, dresses with frilly details, miniskirts, corsets and heels paired with knee-high socks.

Secondly, room decor.

In room decor, coquette means soft pastel candy colours everywhere. A vintage vanity desk and ornamental mirror. Heart-shaped pillows and dolls. String lights and hanging dried flowers. Floral wallpaper, Lana Del Rey posters and crystal chandeliers.

On Amazon, demand for coquette room decor is shooting through the roof:

There are already 4000 products on offer for coquette room decor, which is a lot. However, just 3 products on the first page have “coquette” in the title, which to me is a clear sign that most brands are unaware of this trend and how important it is to their sales. They probably think that what people want is pink pillows. However, it goes deeper than that.

This is a good niche for someone confident in their sense of style and willing to bet money on it. Lots of products could be suitable for “coquette” aesthetic, and deciding which one is going to be the most important decision.

2. Wireless CarPlay adapter

Anybody who has an iPhone and drives a car will know what CarPlay is - an integration system that connects your phone to your car. Compatible apps are shown on the car touch screen, replacing native car manufacturer interfaces, which are usually outdated or poorly designed, or both.

The only downside of CarPlay is that in some cars it can only work with the wired connection. And this is where the popularity of wireless CarPlay adapters comes from. They first appeared in the market two years ago, and demand is still growing. On Amazon, search term popularity went up by 80% in the last 360 days.

This is not an easy niche. There are 15 competing brands, and the quality of most of the Amazon listings is pretty good.

Also, this is a complex product. This means extra care in finding the right supplier, spending time on testing samples and doing strict quality control.

3. Liquid blush

Adding blush to cheeks is as old as the world. Pinkish cheeks is a clear signal of good health, and good health means a female is ready to reproduce, which we males are wired to find sexy.

Over the centuries, people used all kinds of things to blush their cheeks, from vegetables and berries to ground ochre and, most recently, cosmetic powder.

And now there is a new option - liquid blush.

Liquid blush has lots of benefits when compared to traditional powder options. It lasts longer, it blends with the skin much better, it does not make the skin dry. It can be applied with your fingers. It is also good for older skin as it does not build up inside the wrinkles, making them less visible.

Demand for liquid blushes is blowing up, and this is still a very young niche - average listing age on Amazon is just over one year.

I would have expected this market to be dominated by large beauty brands, but it is not - there are lots of punk brands with not much experience in the beauty niche, some of them from China.

This market looks ready for some disruption.

4. Black shower head

One of the hottest recent trends in bathroom decor is matte black finish. This can apply to many things: taps, mirror frames, ceiling lights, hangers etc. Our focus today, however, is on shower heads.

Demand growth for black shower heads is not new, but it keeps rising, both on Google Trends and Amazon:

Competition is brutal, there are 20+ brands in this space, both Chinese and US-based.

5. Chicken nesting box

This is my favourite type of product opportunity.

First, the overall demand is going up. Covid forced people to stay at home and invent weird hobbies, such as raising chickens. The pandemic is now thankfully a distant memory (at least here in Europe), but getting yourself a mini chicken farm is still something that people want.

Second, the majority of sellers are from the USA. Often this means poor competitor level. Take a look at images 4 and 5 of the top seller in the niche - the instructions are the size of a bus ticket, they are completely unreadable. In 2022, this is criminal offence. Whoever is responsible for this should be fired on the spot. And yet, they somehow manage to generate 65k of monthly revenue.

Third, the product is basic and the prices are high. All you need is 8 wooden boards glued together, to start selling for $38.53.

This is one of the best examples of a small niche that for some reason avoided the attention of professional sellers.

2. Lace front wig 613

This is not the most poetic product name, but it will make sense in a second.

The number 613 is a colour code in the world of hair, and it basically means blonde.

“Lace” is a piece of thin, nearly invisible fabric that the hair is attached to.

“Lace front” means that the front of the wig blends with real hair in such a way that it looks natural, as if growing right from the scalp.

I am not entirely sure where the spike in popularity comes from. Judging by Amazon reviews, the customers are almost exclusively black women, and my guess is that this is some kind of a niche fashion trend.

In any case, interest in blonde lace front wigs is going up, both on Google and Amazon:

Competition is brutal, there are 40+ brands present in this niche. But size of the niche is quite big, with top 15 sellers revenue range of 50-100k per month, and there is no established leader in this market.

3. Baby monitor without Wi-Fi

Why would anyone want a baby monitor without Wi-Fi, you might wonder. Why would anyone want ANYTHING without Wi-Fi?

Well, for two reasons.

First, the radiation. In 2011, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that all radio frequencies are a possible cause of cancer. And babies, because their skulls are thinner, are more sensitive to Wi-Fi radio waves:

This is a scary-looking picture, enough to make somebody google more about Wi-Fi safety. And the first source they find is ScienceDirect, a collection of peer-reviewed scientific papers, which claims that “Wi-Fi is an important threat to human health”.

I can see how this can spiral into proper panic, resulting in anything from Wi-Fi ban to tin foil hats.

The second reason people want a baby monitor without Wi-Fi is fear of hacking. Apparently some Wi-Fi monitors are easy to hack.

Ha-ha-ha, idiots, why would anyone want to hack a baby monitor - was my initial reaction. But then I thought - what if I am lucky enough to have enemies, and I like to discuss things with my wife, in bed? Wouldn’t my enemies want to hear what I have to say?

Again, panic. Suddenly a no Wi-Fi baby monitor sounds like a great idea.

Lots of people seem to agree, interest is going up both on Google and Amazon:

There is a lot of competition in baby monitors space, including some well-known brands, but not many market themselves as specifically non-Wi-Fi. I was able to find just 5 brands, which is great news for new sellers.

This seems enough to convince a lot of people, and popularity of wood massage therapy tools is going up both on Google and Amazon:

Competition is tough, and most sellers are from China, but only some of them focus on cellulite specifically, which can be one of the ways to enter this market for a new seller.

The market is relatively new, and is represented by only a handful of brands, all of them US-based and retail-oriented. Number one listing sells 2000 units per day and does not even bother with video or EBC content.

A professional Amazon-focused brand could easily disrupt this market.

Women go through a lot more pain in life than men.

To prove that, volunteers were asked to try what it feels like to have period cramps. Men and women were hooked up to a machine that contracts stomach muscles with electrical impulses and simulates period pain. Women were able to tolerate it easily. Men winced and screamed like babies.

The video of screaming men went viral on TikTok, and hashtag #periodsimulator was born, generating more videos of crying cowboys.

Behind all of this is a Canadian company Somedays, which manufactures a range of period pain relief products, such as creams and oils. And my favourite bit is that there is no such thing as a period pain simulator. They took some basic electronic pulse massager ($23 on Amazon), placed the electrodes in the right places and adjusted impulse power to where it feels like period cramps.

The result: 300k brand followers on Tiktok and 11m likes, virtually for free. Ladies and gentlemen, this is what great marketing should look like.

Another unexpected result of this stunt is that people are now searching for actual period pain simulator on Amazon. They want to buy one. I have no idea why. As a gift to someone’s husband? To satisfy an inner masochist? In any case, the demand is there:

And no one is selling it.

In search results, there are electronic pulse massagers, but how do I know which setting corresponds to period pain, and where exactly do I put electrodes? It needs to be marketed specifically as a period pain simulator, with relevant content.

This product is not going to make you a billionaire, the market is small, but you can be the only fish in this little pond of pain.

2. Monitor light bar

A monitor light bar is essentially a lamp that is attached to the top of your monitor. It brightens up both the screen and the work surface.

The main benefit is that it reduces glare from other light sources and therefore reduces eye strain, making your eyes less tired:

For people who spend hours in front of the screen this can be very relevant. I realised I want one for myself after writing this!

There are lots of additional features that a light bar can come with:

• laptop-compatible;

• curved monitor compatible;

• auto dimming;

• hue adjustment;

• 180 degree rotation, to illuminate the wall behind the monitor with ambient colors that match a movie that you watch or a game you play;

The niche is new, search volume was non-existent just two years ago, and it keeps growing:

There are, however, some warning signs. Most sellers are Chinese, which usually means tight profit margins. Also, top-3 sellers get 62% of all clicks, it could be challenging to break into the top of this market.

3. Hair heat protectant

Hair requires a lot of heat treatment if you want it to look good, such as blow drying with a fan, curling with a curler, straightening with an iron. With time, all that heat damages the hair, destroying its internal structure, making it dry and fragile.

Hair heat protectant helps prevent that by creating a barrier between a heat source and hair.

This is a relatively new thing, but it looks like it is here to stay. In a recent Vogue article, a celebrity hairstylist Alexander Armand (Serena Williams is a client), recommends a heat protectant to “anyone who uses a blow dryer or hot tools directly on their hair, to eliminate as much heat damage as possible”.

Interest is growing on Google Trends, and it is up 33% on Amazon within the past year:

This is not an easy market, there is a lot of competition, and some big brands are present, such as L’Oreal etc.

However, there are also many different heat protectants. Some target different hair styles (curvy, coily, straight), some have additional ingredients (keratin, natural oils). There is enough room to create a product that no one has in this growing niche.

4. Gel blaster

This product is not for the faint-hearted. “Gel blaster” is one of the top-100 most popular search terms on Amazon. Enter at your own risk, expecting tight margins, loooots of competition and blackhat tactics used against you.

Gel blaster is a newer and safer twist on airsoft guns. The shooting mechanism is the same, but instead of plastic pellets it shoots balls that are 98% water and 2% biodegradable shell. These balls do not damage surfaces and are considered safe, even for kids.

It is a new thing, exploding in popularity this year. Current average product age on Amazon is just 3 (!) months, and there are no established sellers on this market yet.

Another piece of good news: top-3 products get just 12% of clicks. One reason is that there are many gel blaster variations. There are semi-automatic rifles and there are guns. Some come with infra-red sights, or bigger load capacity, or better batteries, or safety googles, or offer longer shooting range.

And the more variables the product has the easier it is to launch a unique product.

Let’s make one thing clear first - cow print is in fashion right now.

Also, this is the first time it happened, cow print is a never-before-seen fashion trend, unlike other animal prints, such as leopard or zebra. And some fashion industry experts think it is here to stay.

Google Trends shows 2021 as the peak year for “cow print“, but interest is still high in 2022:

People love cow print, and their love is not limited to clothing. One example is cow print car accessories:

The trend is not super-new, last year was the perfect time to start riding this wave, but it is still going strong both on Google Trends and Amazon, up 85% past 360 days:

There are many red flags in this niche which you should be aware of: there is lots of competition, the majority of sellers are from China, prices are relatively low.

But there is one thing that makes me recommend this niche. This is a fashion item. People looking for cow print car accessories want something trendy and cool. And this is where the opportunity might lie - most of what is currently on offer on Amazon looks cheap and tacky, as if made for kids:

What you can do is make it less about kids and more about fashion. Here is one example of that, a tissue box selling 100 units per day.

Today, refreshed and refocused, I present to you five new quality product leads.

Before we proceed, a quick announcement - in this issue I add another tool to my product analysis - DataDive. For those of you who are not familiar with it, DataDive can be very useful for Amazon product research. In a nutshell, it helps you retrieve sales/competitors/keywords data of a given niche and analyse it in a variety of ways.

1. Gochugaru

Gochugaru is an essential part of Korean cuisine.

It is a spice made of sun-dried peppers without the seeds, which are ground to either flakes or powder.

Apparently it is unlike other chilli powders as it has its own distinct taste. And gochugaru is growing in popularity in the USA.

On the graph below (taken from DataDive), you can see Google Trends and Amazon search volume, and there is an upward trend in both cases, which is what we want to see.

The downside of this niche is low median price of $9.72, which could mean tight profit margins.

The upside is weak competition. Most of the listings either lack EBC content, or use terrible photos, or have non-optimised bullet points. Here is one example, and they still manage to do 20 sales a day.

This is a niche which can be easily disrupted by a more professional approach.

2. Pokemon card binder

I used to collect stamps when I was a kid, and my initial thought was - Pokémon cards are something similar. You buy Pokémon cards, maybe trade a couple of them with your classmates and then forget about the whole thing. Your mother will quietly throw them away some time around your 35th birthday and you won’t know and won’t care.

Well, I was wrong. Pokémon cards are a big deal.

Yes, there is an element of collecting, and people trade cards, but you can also play games with other people, and the Pokémon cards community is HUGE.

You start off by assembling an initial deck of 60 cards. Each card depicts a Pokémon character, with crucial info, such as name, type of the creature, health points and attack type:

Then you put your cards in a binder and go to play with other people:

Game idea in a nutshell: you compare Pokémons with your opponent, and, if your Pokémon characters have stronger parameters, you win.

Cards get expensive with time and can be an investment. One card named Pikachu Illustrator was recently sold for $5.275 million.

Also, card price depends on how well-preserved the card is. This is another reason why any self-respecting Pokémon card collector needs a binder.

The product is quite new. Amazon search volume was non-existent in 2019, and is growing rapidly. Google Trends interest is also going up:

Another thing to note here is seasonality. This is a giftable item, and demand will be at its highest in Q4, peaking at Christmas:

There is a lot of competition (34 sellers), and most of them are from China, which is usually a sign of low margins.

One way to enter this already crowded market could be offering premium binders to people who want a respectable home for their Pokémon team.

What I like about this niche is poor competition. There are many hair gel products on Amazon, and some of them might actually be suitable for braiding, but just 12 of them mention “braids” on the packaging or in the title, and the quality of competition is low. Second-best seller in the niche, with 2700 units per month, has no EBC content, which is a crime. It should be easy for any professional Amazon seller to beat most of the competition.

Descaling, in case you didn’t know, means removing bits of calcium and lime that build up inside appliances like kettles or coffee machines.

Nespresso recommends to descale their coffee machines every 600 coffees. They also sell their own descaling kits to do that.

You do not have to buy an original to descale your Nespresso machine, pretty much any descaling liquid will do. Not everybody, however, seems to know that, and interest in Nespresso descaling kits is growing on Google and Amazon:

There are several things that I like about this product.

First of all, competition is very weak. There are just a handful of professionally made listings, and the total number of competitors is low.

Second, you can target a wide variety of appliances besides Nespresso, such as Keurig etc.

5. 3D printer resin

3D Printing is a fast-changing niche. Just a couple of years ago the mainstream thing was to use rolls of plastic string (also called filament) as a source material. Now, you can also use liquid resin.

Resin allows you to print stuff with a much better resolution:

People seem to use resin for 3d printing more and more. Here is Google Trends comparison, with resin overtaking filament in popularity this year:

This is not the easiest of products, as 3D printing resins have lots of variables:

1. Smoothness. There are resins that specialise in a particularly smooth surface.

2. Color. Most resins are grey, but sometimes a specific color is needed.

3. Transparency. There are resins that are transparent.

4. Flexibility: By adding rubber, some resins can be made flexible.

5. Durability: Most resins become brittle over time, due to sun exposure. But there are resins that are designed for mechanical stability.

6. Toxicity. There are plant-based resins which do not harm the environment.

All that variety creates a market for different resins that you as a seller can exploit by finding a unique combination.

At the moment there are just 6 3D resin brands on Amazon USA. The quality of competition is quite high, but still, 6 brands is a low number for such a fast-growing niche.

1. Mouse jiggler

A mouse jiggler is a device with one simple purpose - it constantly moves your mouse and simulates activity on your computer.

There are many reasons why somebody might want a mouse jiggler. Sometimes, people want their messenger status to stay green to fool their boss. Sometimes, companies install software that checks if employees are working and not sipping piña coladas in the backyard, by monitoring computer activity such as mouse movements.

But sipping piña coladas is exactly what most people want to do. One Amazon listing openly invites everybody to daydream more and work less:

This product is also trending on Tiktok, under such hashtags as #wfhhacks and #mousejiggler.

There are quite a few competitors on Amazon, but there are many different jigglers. Some move the cursor, some physically move the mouse, some are programmable to perform certain tasks at certain intervals.

I like this niche. Even if companies start to catch up on this and detect current jigglers this will only mean that more advanced mouse jigglers will become popular. Which means new product opportunities for you as a seller.

2. Permanent jewelry

In two words, permanent jewelry is jewelry without a clasp. Usually this means bracelets.

You take a piece of gold chain and WELD two ends together. The idea is to do this together with your best friend or a loved one, and to never take the bracelet off again, so that it always reminds you of each other.

Unless, of course, you have to do an MRI scan, in which case you do have to take it off, but this doesn’t seem to bother anyone. On Google, interest in permanent jewelry is shooting through the roof:

On Amazon, there is no spike, which is understandable. “Permanent jewelry” is not something that people get online since this involves welding.

One thing that you can do is look at Amazon autocomplete, to see if there are other products in this rapidly growing niche:

One example is “permanent jewelry welder kit”. At the time of this writing, there is zero competition. There are of course welder kits, but no one is targeting customers looking specifically for permanent jewelry welder kits.

It is hard to estimate how big the niche is, and how long the trend will last, but right now there is definitely some demand and it is going up.

3. Montessori toys

Montessori is a well-known educational system for kids, it’s basic idea is to help develop natural interests and talents instead of using traditional teaching methods.

Montessori approach also means specific toys. The main point of montessori toys is to help kids learn about the world by themselves, at their own pace, exploring such concepts as color, material and shape.

Montessori system has been around for a while, this is not a new trend. However, the interest in “montessori toys” is going up:

This trend looks even better if we zoom Google Trends out and look at the last 18 years:

As for Amazon, 2021 was much better than 2020, and it is too early to analyse 2022 as the best time for toys’ sales is always Q4.

The best thing about this niche is that it is very broad. “Montessori toys” can mean different things to different people, and it will be easy to launch a unique product that no one is selling.

Also, top-3 products get just 14% of clicks, which means that there are no established market leaders. This means better chances of success for new product launches.

There are fashion trends that I hope my wife never follows, and sleep bonnet is on this list, somewhere between crocs and armpit hair. In my world, you only buy a sleep bonnet if you plan to never have sex again.

At the same time, a recent article in Elle magazine claims that “sleep bonnets are as essential as oxygen. It helps extend the life of hairstyles, prevent frizz, and retain moisture while you get your Zzzz in. Sleeping without one can dry your hair out, cause breakage, and disrupt your style.”

Google Trends data tells us that sleep bonnets are becoming increasingly popular:

On Amazon, things are looking good too, year 2022 is the best ever.

There is quite a lot of competition, but the niche is new, and this is a fashion item, which makes coming up with a unique product easier.

This is an example of a false trend that looks good on the first glance.

Gut cleanse in the supplements world basically means fiber, in capsules or in powder form. Some brands also add probiotics, vitamins and other stuff, but the basic idea is this - you consume fiber and it helps you remove toxins from your gut.

In the past five years, interest in “gut cleanse” on Google has been increasing, with 2022 being the best year:

On Amazon, there is a similar picture.

So things are looking pretty good, right?

Well, no.

First warning sign is that Brand Analytics search frequency rank is too high, 105,590. This is not a popular search term.

Second warning sign is that the top 3 products’ click share is too high, 51%. This is an established niche with strong leaders, it will be hard to compete with them. And they get lots of sales, which is weird considering that the search term is not popular. Is there maybe another search term that people use for this product?

There is, and it is much more popular: colon cleanse:

And this makes it a completely different story. The search term is not new, the niche is mature, with well-known brands at the top. Not quite what we are looking for.

Keratosis pilaris, also known as “chicken skin”, is a skin condition that causes excess keratin in your body to block growth of new hair, resulting in you getting red pimples instead.

Here is a handy demonstration of the process:

These pimples come in patches and usually appear on upper arms, cheeks and buttocks. You are more likely to get it if you are a kid, a woman, or have Celtic ancestry.

It is not contagious and tends to disappear before you are 30 years old.

Understandably, not everyone is prepared to wait, and there is a big demand for keratosis pilaris treatment.

The condition is not curable, but people try. There are two major types of treatment: exfoliating creams that remove dead skin and hydrating lotions that can prevent the condition.

There is not a lot of growth in demand over the last few years, but there are two things that I really like about this opportunity. First, there is very little competition, literally just a handful of brands taking all the sales. Second, the product is relatively simple. It can basically be an exfoliating cream, all you have to do is position it as primarily a keratosis pilaris treatment.

2. Robot waiter

I saw one of those last summer at a London restaurant, and I have to admit - it was fun to watch. The robot did not do much, I wouldn’t even call it a robot, it was more of a smart bookshelf on wheels, taking orders from the kitchen to the front of the restaurant. The plates were then picked up by waiters to deliver to actual customers.

And just a couple of weeks ago I have been to a bar in Prague where you get your cocktails mixed by a robot hand:

I prefer human barmen, but again, it was a fun experience, and there is a clear trend of robots increasingly helping humans in the hospitality industry. Google Trends confirms that:

In terms of Amazon, this is an unusual case. No one sells robot waiters, there is literally zero competition. But when I type “robot wai…” in the search box here are the Amazon suggestions that I get:

Clearly there are people looking for robot waiters. And not finding any.

At the same time, on Alibaba there are plenty of options. Robot waiters are expensive, but I like the MOQ of 1:

A lick mat is a piece of textured silicone that you use to feed dogs.

For dogs, there are several benefits: it keeps them busy, reduces anxiety and helps develop their mental abilities.

Another thing you can do with a lick mat is separate different foods into sections and treat your dog to an a-la-carte dinner:

This is a relatively new thing in the dog world, people started googling lick mats just about two-three years ago:

One major concern is the average market price of $12. Profit margins in this market are going to be low.

Normally I would recommend against such niches, but great things happen when overall customer demand is going up. Just look at the current top listing sales:

Launched just over a year ago and already selling 200 units per day at above average market price. A success.

4. Wagon stroller

A wagon stroller is a fairly new concept in the parenting world.

As the name suggests, it is a mix of a wagon and a stroller, with the best bits of both: you can use it to transport babies around, but you can put more of them inside. Here is a solution for you in case you have four kids:

Apart from babies, you can put stuff inside, like shopping bags for example.

Another benefit of wagon strollers is that they can be both pushed AND pulled, which is very useful on some rough terrains like sand or gravel.

Also, there are lots of additional features that a wagon stroller can have: car seat adapters, roofs, side bags, big wheels, premium materials etc.

This gives you, as a seller, lots of options to play with and differentiate your product from competitors.

On Google, demand for wagon strollers is at an all-time high at the moment. Also, it looks a bit seasonal, with sales slowing down in winter:

The niche is new, and there are not as many brands competing as one would expect. Also, there is no leading brand that parents would know and prefer, and top-3 listings for “wagon stroller“ in Brand Analytics only take 36% of sales. Such a low percentage often means that there is room for new players.

5. Fingerprint door lock

We live in the greatest time in human history, with technological progress improving our lives at an unprecedented speed. Yet there are things in life that refuse to change for the better. Countries having different electrical plugs is one example. Americans insisting that weeks start on Sunday is another. Door locks with physical keys is yet another.

This year my family stayed in around 10 different Airbnbs, and I had to use physical keys EVERY SINGLE TIME. This makes no sense. Physical keys can be stolen, copied or lost, and we have all the technology to make door locks completely keyless. Yet we still carry pieces of metal in our pockets like medieval peasants.

This has to change, and looks like it soon will. On Google USA, interest in fingerprint door locks is going up:

Things are looking good on Amazon as well. This year is the best ever:

The niche is not new, there are lots of competitors. But it is also a big niche, and it is developing fast. Apart from fingerprint locks, there are similar ones: code locks, face recognition locks, locks that open via smartphone etc. And they are all part of the same trend that will only get bigger in the next 5-10 years.

GAN is the industry-leading brand you’ve never heard of. It manufactures the best rubik’s cube puzzles in the world. They are also called speedcubes, or cubes for short.

Speedcubing is a big industry. The goal is to solve cube puzzles as fast as you can. There are world championships, corporate sponsorships and speedcubing celebrities. Here is a sexy video of top maestros speedcubing, emotions are flying pretty high.

What makes this niche potentially interesting is the variety of cubes. They do not have to be cubes, they can of any color, shape, size and material.

One major consideration is patent issues. Top brands, such as GAN, will protect their inventions with patents, so any white-label product found on Alibaba would have to be checked for that.

Another major point is quality. This is a product where speed performance can be dependent on the smallest technical details, and supplier quality control has to be a priority.

Other than that, the demand on Google looks great:

GAN, the leading brand, does around a million USD revenue per month in USA alone, according to my rough estimations. Not bad for a niche puzzle brand.

2. Sublimation blanks

Sublimation is the specific printing process where you use heat to transfer an image onto any kind of material, such a textile or metal.

Today this can also be done at home. All you need is a sublimation printer (some regular printers can be converted into a sublimation printer by replacing cartridges) and sublimation ink. You print an image on a sheet of paper, wrap it around an object and heat it up with an iron or a heat gun.

You will also need blank objects to print on, such as a set of tumblers:

Apart from tumblers, there are many options for blanks: license plates, pillows, wine glasses, cups, t-shirts etc - the list is long.

Interest in sublimation printing picked up in 2020 and is staying flat since then.

At the same time, Brand Analytics search frequency rank for “sublimation rank” is at an all-time high of 1,822, up 40% compared to last year.

There are lots of competitors, but this is a very broad search term. Some people look for sublimation blanks and mean towels, others mean mousepads. This is why top-3 sellers in Brand Analytics only get 11% of clicks - people do not stop on page one of the search results and scroll down in search of more sublimation blanks options.

This is an opportunity to get creative and to launch a unique product. Here are my three ideas for sublimation blanks that no one is doing at the moment: womens’ underwear, men’s ties, baby onesies.

My feeling is that there could be some space in between - a meduim-priced product with enough useful features.

My initial thought was - this is a boring product that existed forever and a spike in demand must be a mistake. When I was a schoolkid in the USSR I remember older guys in my local gym using those. Surely this must be a saturated market on Amazon.

But then I looked again, and apparently there are two types of weghtlifting belts, with different stories.

One is called a prong belt, and it has prongs:

The other is called a lever belt, and it locks with a lever:

The key difference is that lever belts are quicker to lock and unlock. And the spike in demand on Google Trends is only happening for lever belts:

In 2022, Amazon search frequency rank for lever belts is at an all-time high. Search volume growth year on year is 159%.

There are three things that I like about this opportunity. First, the average price is $52, which is high. Second, there are not too many competing brands (15). Third, top-3 products’ combined click share is just 28% - this usually means that there are no established brands that customers prefer and each brand gets a little bite of the pie. Such markets are easier to enter for new private labels.

In America, low-income people can get free money from the US government to spend on food. You can get around $100 per month if you are eligible.

This money is then transferred to a special card, called EBT card, which can be used in store or online just like any other bank card to purchase certain EBT-eligible food.

Apart from actual food, people with an EBT card can also buy plants, the ones that can be used to grow actual food. Such as the chilli peppers grow kit on the image above.

Google Trends data shows growth in interest and indicates that it is seasonal, with spikes during spring. This makes sense as spring is when most people plant their gardens in the USA.

On Amazon, June 2022 was the best time ever for “ebt plants“ search term:

The market is not that saturated, with just 14 brands, and there are no established players - top-3 products get just 30% of all the clicks. As with lever belts, this market will be easy to penetrate if the product is right.

Another bonus point for this opportunity is that it can easily be manufactured locally, even at your own home. A good product for someone looking for an easy way to start an Amazon business.

3. If we make the toothpaste purple then two colors cancel each other out and BOOM, teeth are white!

This is it, as far as I understand. It is basically a usual toothpaste, but purple.

Is this why some shampoos are purple as well, to make blonde hair even more blonde?

Hair tinsel is basically strands of tinsel that you mix with hair. Another name that people use for this is ‘fairy hair’.

On Google Trends, there are several other spikes apart from November 2021, suggesting more celebrities doing this tinsel thing. Currently the trend is at an all-time high.

Things look similar on Amazon. Growth in ‘hair tinsel‘ search term popularity year on year is 232%:

There is already some competition, with 19 brands competing in the niche. One way to stand out could be to launch a hair tinsel kit. There are a few of those already, but they all look the same, and it should be fairly easy to create a unique kit (an example: include a booklet on hair tinsel design ideas).

I know a lot about portable bottle warmers.

First of all, I have a 9-month-old son. Secondly, we travel all the time. Right now we are in the middle of an epic eurotrip from Prague to Lisbon, and I have loooots of baby stuff with me, incuding two different portable bottle warmers.

There are lots of varieties of this product. Some are electric with an opening on top, where you put your milk bottle to heat it up. Some are electric but they only dispense hot water. Some have dials like the example below, some have buttons with pre-set temperatures. Some are non-electric with a thermos, to heat the milk in the car for example.

One thing to note: there are big players in the niche that parents know, such as Tommee Tippee. Because of this, click share of top 5 products is high, at 81%.

However, due to sheer variety of features, there must be room to introduce a product that no one has. Especially if you are a parent and can test it yourself.

Advertising costs are most likely out of this world, with everyone bidding on a handful of keywords, such as “creatine” and “creatine monohydrate”. Also, top players have thousands of reviews, most of them above 4.5 stars, breaking into the top of search results is not going to be easy, or quick.

Covid is over, and travel is back on. For americans going to Europe this means buying travel adapters.

But if you zoom out and look at pre-Covid times then things look different. Similar sort of interest was there before.

It is possible that there is less competition now, due to some travel-focused brands going out of business during Covid, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

There are established players in this market, with top 5 brands getting the majority of sales (92). This market will be a hard one to penetrate.

5. Catalytic converter shield

I know a guy who spent five years in an Italian prison for stealing motors off private boats. Police eventually caught him by tracing his recent jobs and ambushing him in one of the marines. His main regret was that at the start of his thug career he chose stealing boat motors over something less complicated, like stealing catalytic converters.

In case you do not know, a catalytic converter is a part of car exhaust system responsible for converting toxic gases into harmless ones. Inside there are expensive metals, like platinum, palladium and rhodium, and their prices are rising. Right now the price of one catalytic converter on the black market is, Google tells me, around $500.

Here is a picture of someone possibly stealing it:

So what can you do? You can buy a catalytic converter shield.

It is basically a sheet of metal that covers the converter and makes it harder to steal.

Google Trends shows a sharp rise in interest. This might be due to rising metal prices and more converters being stolen, or people becoming more aware about this and wanting to protect their cars. Or both. In any case, this is looks like a big enough niche.

On Amazon the number one search term for this product used to be “catalytic converter anti theft”.

But in February this year, due to Amazon search box autocomplete suggestions change, it switched to “catalytic convertidor anti theft”.

Because of this change, it is harder to analyse the demand, but my guess is that it is a very underdeveloped niche with potential.

Apart from overall market growth, I like the high average price of $162.92, and the fact that there are many cars, each requiring different shields. This means an opportunity to launch not one product but many.

Jason DeFord, AKA Jelly Roll, a rapper from Tennessee, US, with over 2.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify. I listened to some of his stuff while writing this and it is actually not bad.

But this is not what we want today. What we want is this:

A jelly roll is basically a bunch of pre-cut 2½” x 42″ fabric strips of different patterns. Also, the patterns are matching in style, so that when you sew them together they look good.

People do all kinds of stuff with jelly rolls, such as quilts:

And if you look at Brand Analytics data you can see that in July last year search term popularity went from non-existent to 1638 across the whole of Amazon USA.

There are several other things that I like about this product.

Even though the number of competing brands is relatively high (25), the nature of the product makes it easy to create an offer which can stand out from the rest. You can do a different set of patterns, make strips longer, include a free PDF with DIY project ideas.

There are no established brands, your brand can be as good as any.

1. Duck food

It is not as easy as you think to feed a duck. They are very specific about their diet - they can not, for example, eat any kind of bread (certain types of bread moulds can be fatal to them). Also, ducks don’t chew - they swallow. Imagine that, every breakfast is a game of Russian roulette, you trying not to accidentally swallow a nail.

Duck food popularity is at an all-time high:

My initial idea was that more and more people keep ducks as pets, and this is what drives the demand for duck food. But no. Brand Analytics data shows that most people buy duck food to feed wild ducks:

Demand on Amazon is clearly seasonal, and does not actually show a lot of year on year growth:

But the potential is there I think. First of all, average sell price is quite high, at $22. Secondly, I assume that customers do not care that much about established brands. They are not feeding a dog or a cat that they truly care about, they are feeding a bunch of wild ducks. Thirdly, there are just seven competing brands.

This is one of the products which can be perfect for Amazon beginners: low competition, can be manufactured locally in the USA, is cheap and requires little investment.

3. Gel X nail kit

Gel-X is a new thing in the world of nail extensions.

Most artificial nail extensions basically mean attaching a piece of acryllic to your nail tip. Lots of people are unhappy about that as this damages your natural nails.

Instead, Gel-X is made from soft gel that covers the entire nail and helps it grow in a more natural way.

Gel-X is a trademarked name of a company called Aprés Nail. The product is on the market since 2017 and is growing rapidly, both on Google Trends:

The technology itself is no longer a secret and there are cheaper alternatives on Amazon.

However, I do think that this is still a good opportunity. It is a complicated product, with lots of moving parts, just look at the range of things that Aprés Nail offers: apart from actual nail tips, they sell kits, gels, bonders, primers, LED lamps etc.

You can create your own unique product out of all of this, a product that people will want to buy. Just be prepared to spend your time on research, particularly if your nail expertise is like mine, limited to cutting them twice a month with kitchen scissors.

4. Neuropathy socks

Neuropathy, in short, is nerve damage. It usually affects your limbs and results in numbness, tingling, cramps, muscle weakness and extreme sensitivity to touch.

People with diabetes are affected more than others, as high blood sugar often damages small blood vessels in hands and feet.

The condition is permanent - once you have it you learn to live with it.

One of the ways to live with it is to wear neuropathy socks. These socks have certain features that make them different from your regular socks:

• compression to stimulate blood flow;

• padding to relieve pain;

• moisture-absorbent fabric;

In the USA, 37 million peopele are diagnosed with diabetes. This number is constantly increasing, and interest in neuropathy socks is going up, both on Google:

I like this opportunity a lot. It is simple enough, yet there are many options to customise the product and make it unique.

There are quite a few competing brands (24), but top 5 brands only account for 63% of all sales, and there are no well-known brands that dominate the niche.

5. Rearview mirror phone holder

This opportunity is a bit of a surprise. I mean, this is a car phone holder, I would expect this niche to be supercompetitive and hard to make money in, five years ago.

Yet here we go - Google Trends shows that rear view car phone holders is actually a new thing:

Amazon Brand Analytics data looks even better:

The demand is clearly there.

There is another interesting thing that I notice about this product - the number of low-quality products.

Take a look at Jungle Scout data, the last Rating column:

I used red arrows to mark the products with bad rating (4 stars or below). Amazingly, there are just 2 products on top that are over 4.5 stars. The majority is below 4 stars, which is a hallmark of a shit product, yet many of them have decent sales.

One way to succeed in this market is to focus on making a good-quality product, the one that will get you positive reviews, high conversion rates and better margins.

My first issue generated quite a lot of feedback, both negative and positive. Main negative point - if a lot of people receive the same advice on new Amazon product opportunities AND act on it then this advice becomes useless. Main positive point - the number of action takers is usually very low, 99.9% of people will read and ignore.

I agree with the positive approach, but of course after a certain number of subscribers there will be enough action takers to disrupt the whole thing. So here is what I decided to do:

1. Keep the newsletter free for a while, until I can see that there is enough value for paying subscribers, what that value is, and how much I should charge.

2. Add product opportunities that are less straightforward, that point towards a certain direction but require additional research. Examples: young brands that are killing it in their niche, new social trends that create a need for new products, fashion styles taking over TikTok etc.

3. Change the number of leads per email from 8 to 5, to make sure I publish weekly and do not burn out from the whole thing (I still have my Amazon business to run).

Anyway, here are 5 new Amazon product opportunities for this week.

1. Filament dryer

Filament is the raw material that is used in 3D printers. Apparently this filament string has to be completely dry before it is fed into the printer. High humidity environments can mess things up, so people use dryers to prepare the filament.

Google Trends is at an all-time high. Is this because the technology is new?

Amazon Brand Analytics data is similar: almost no demand two years ago, and gradual improvement in popularity after that.

Another thing to note: there are just 5 competing brands taking 100% of the market. There should be room for more players.

2. Dog treadmill

My first question was - if your dog uses a treadmill then why not use a regular human treadmill?

As it turns out, human treadmills are too short and narrow, especially for larger dogs. They struggle to stay in one place and end up hurting themselves. Dog treadmills are longer and wider, as well as slower. Dogs don’t run on a treadmill, they walk.

Also, dog treadmills have blinders on the sides to minimise distractions.

My favourite option on the market is this one:

In fact, I am going to share a brilliant new business idea with you: get a dog, get the treadmill above, hook up an electric generator, and mine some Bitcoin on free electricity. The only thing that is left for you to calculate is if enough Bitcoin is being mined to cover dog food costs!

Anyway, back to Amazon.

Google Trends shows interest almost tripling over the past years and forecasts further rise.

Amazon Brand Analytics rank is also improving, and search volume is up 125% over last 360 days.

It is an expensive product, with just 6 brands competing at the moment. Definitely room to grow.

3. Fidget pen

This is more of a warning than a product opportunity. Even though this love child of a fidget and a pen looks promising on the first glance.

Google Trends data for '“fidget pen” looks quite optimistic:

Amazon Brand Analytics rank improvement is even better, from 100k in January to 5358 in May:

However, anything with the word “fidget” in it is probably a bad product idea. Remember fidget spinners? Here is how this one stood the test of time:

Not very good.

Also, I would expect lots of competition later on. This is an easy product to launch, with high demand, no customisation needed, small size and cheap freight costs. Lots of people will be attracted by this, and profit margins will suffer as a result.

Stay away.

4. Monkey feet

This is basically a shoe that you can attach dumbbells to.

This is a patented product from a company called Animalhouse Fitness. One piece costs 80 USD and fits most dumbbell types, unless you want to treat yourself to a set of dumbbells from Animalhouse Fitness for 185 USD.

This is an expensive way to work out on your leg day, but the product is getting lots of coverage, including Joe Rogan show in April last year, and Google Trends data looks good overall:

Amazon Brand Analytics looks good enough, consdering that the company DOES NOT sell their products on Amazon, and there is nothing similar on offer.

This is not an easy product to launch.

First of all, the product is patented. Research needs to be made into what exactly the patent is for and if there is room for creating something similar in function without violating the patent.

Secondly, you have to then actually create the product. Design, prototyping, testing, molding, manufacturing - the whole thing.

But if you do this right you will have literally no competition. There is NO ONE selling monkey feet alternatives on Amazon at the moment.

5. RV door lock

This is exactly what you think it is - an RV door lock.

My first question was - why now? Covid lockdowns are over, and demand for RV-related stuff is weakening, as can be seen from Google Trends data for “RV buy“:

But things are different for RV door locks. Interest is actually going up.

So why? I did a bit of research, and learned that most of RV door locks and keys are pretty much the same. Your RV neighbours can potentially open your door with their keys. This is obviously not good. And this is something that, I assume, became widespread knowledge only recently. And people started shopping for new locks.

Brand Analytics data shows steady improvement:

I also note high average sale price of $80 per product. People don’t just replace standard locks, they want to improve them.

The idea behind this product is simple - open the door at sunrise, close at sunset. Chickens like to wake up early and get upset if you keep them inside the coop in the morning. You either have to wake up yourself and let them out or listen to their unhappy noises.

At sunset the door closes and protects the coop from predators.

The product is not new, but it soared in popularity with Covid restrictions and shows no signs of stopping, judging by Google Trends:

Did you know that some fridges use a water filter that needs to be changed every 6 months? I didn’t, and I have no idea how this information avoided me until now. I need to get a better fridge.

Some sources claim that water filters is a very profitable part of fridge business, and you might be ok replacing them less frequently, but Google Trends data seems to disagree. Searches for GE filters are on the rise:

Demand for filters on Amazon will depend on the popularity of a given fridge, but here is one where there is a clear recent jump in interest, “xwfe3pk GE water filter”:

This market requires constant monitoring of which fridges are going in and out of circulation, but, if done right, this can be a good niche. Also, this is something that people will buy again and again, which is always good news.

3. Tummy time toys

I have recently become a father, so this one is easy to explain. Young babies tend to spend most of the time on their backs, both when sleeping and awake, unable to turn around. Because of this, it is advisable to put them on their tummies from time to time, to let them engage other muscles, to force them to raise their head, move around and eventually start to crawl.

At this point it is a good idea to have toys around to get their attention. These can be mirrors, high-contrast pictures, squeaky things etc:

Things, however, are looking better on Amazon, where search frequency rank has been improving for the past two years:

This is one of those niches where there is a lot of room for creativity and new ideas, especially if you are familiar with the subject and have a baby nearby for some beta-testing.

It looks like people are going on cruises again, and it might be a good time to exploit that. One of the search terms that is getting more and more traffic is “cruise must haves”. Google Trends is almost at an all-time high:

What do people buy when they go on a cruise? Here is one example: a power strip that is compatible with cruise ship sockets. It basically means that a power strip must not have surge protection, which is a necessary requirement for all cruise ships.

5. Boho baby

Boho (short for Bohemian) is a popular fashion style somewhat similar to hippie fashion. It uses natural fabrics, patterns accents of the 70s, neutral and warm shades.

Some people claim that it is more than just a fashion trend, that it is an actual ideology: an alternative way of dressing, combined with a liberated lifestyle and a social position against things like materialism or climate change.

Here are some examples:

Boho style, however, is a very fuzzy term and it can mean anything, from shoes to carpets. This is not a very well-defined niche.

Here is a subtrend which is more narrow: a boho baby:

It more or less means clothing for baby girls, boho style.

This is not an easy niche. Fashion invoilves a lot of window shopping, people clicking and not buying, low conversions and high returns. However, there is definitely an opportunity there, if the product fits what the market wants.

6. Non-alcoholic wine

Non-alcoholic alcohol is becoming one of the main trends in the drinks sector. Sales in 2021 reached more than $1.6 Bn, and are expected to jump to $4.5 Bn by the year 2031.

And non-alcoholic wine is one of the main drivers.

7. Gold kitchen faucet

Gold finishes is one of the hot 2022 trends in kitchen design. Sinks and faucets is where the action is:

Google Trends USA for the past 5 years is showing a steady rise. Nothing dramatic, but it is there:

Amazon popularity for “gold kitchen faucet” follows a similar pattern, improving slowly:

This might be a good trend for someone already familiar with the kitchen niche and looking to expand the range of products.

There are two things about this product that I find interesting and potentially useful.

First of all, there is tremendous growth in interest, both on Google:

And secondly, there are other sellers on Amazon exploiting this search term, such as this, this and this one, selling similar-sounding things like “hydration accelerator" etc. It is not immediately clear that these are actually different products, and some customers might be confused enough to prefer other brands to LIQUID I.V.
